It’s a new year and we’re really excited to be launching another great program for the WA Training Awards 2016. Applications will open in just a few short weeks on Monday 22 February 2016, at which point you’ll be able to download an application guide for your chosen category and start your application online for your chance to be among the State’s best in the training sector!
So what do you need to know about this year’s WA Training Awards program?
Individual category announcements
This year we have two great announcements in our individual categories. School-based Apprentice of the Year is now open to those undertaking Certificate II qualifications and above. So if you know an amazing school-based apprentice or trainee we want to hear from them!
We have also introduced a new category – the WA International Student of the Year. This is an award unique to Western Australia recognising the exceptional achievements of international students in our State. We look forward to a successful inaugural year for this category.
Changes to organisation categories
In 2016 the WA Training Initiative award has been replaced by the WA Industry Collaboration Award. This award recognises innovative skills development collaborations between two or more organisations. The criteria for this category is similar to that of the former Training Initiative category, but now aligns with the Australian Training Awards category, providing a national pathway for this award. Check the criteria on Monday 22 February to see if your organisation is eligible.
From 2016, the School Pathways to VET award will no longer be offered in WA. This is a Commonwealth Government award run by the Australian Training Awards and we encourage all contenders from WA to apply directly to the Australian Training Awards. Applications for direct entry are open now and close on 31 May 2016. Any Australian Training Awards finalists from WA will be acknowledged at the WA Training Awards Presentation Dinner in September 2016.
Other important changes to note this year include the eligibility for the WA Small Training Provider of the Year and WA Large Training Provider of the Year categories. Instead of applicants for the WA Small Training Provider of the Year category needing to have fewer than 1500 enrolled students, they now need to be delivering less than 50 qualifications (listed on their scope of registration).
Similarly with the WA Large Training Provider of the Year category; instead of applicants needing to have 1500 or more enrolled students, they now need to be delivering 50 or more qualifications (listed on their scope of registration).
The full list of eligibility criteria for each category will be available on the WA Training Awards website when applications open on 22 February.
Easy to use online application system
All applications for the WA Training Awards are to be submitted via our online application portal. We’ve been working hard to make the system as easy and straightforward as possible for all users. You can create an account, start an application, save it and continue to go in and update the application until you’re ready to submit it by 13 May. We can’t wait to see your applications!
The main event
This year’s WA Training Awards Presentation Dinner will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday 23 September 2016. Attendees can look forward to a stunning three course meal, an exciting Awards presentation and a live band to celebrate with at the end of the evening.
